Athena’s William McCalpin Offers Commentary to Responsible Investor Magazine
Athena Capital Advisors’ William McCalpin, Managing Partner, Impact Investments, was quoted in a recent Responsible Investor article that assessed the evolving impact investing landscape. The story, “A Changing of the Guard as Big Firms Acquire ESG Pioneers?” observed that many larger institutions are seeking to buy, rather than build, impact investing capabilities to satisfy increasing demand from their clients.
“In a growing and expanding sector, this kind of [M&A] activity is typical for this phase of development. Managers that have been active in sustainable investing for some time are looking to scale up,” McCalpin told reporter Paul Hodgson. “Other firms may seek combinations that will give their product offerings greater visibility on established distribution platforms. We may even see roll-ups of asset managers with different sustainable investment strategies.”
The article, published on November 23, is available to subscribers of Responsible Investor here.
William McCalpin joined Athena Capital Advisors as Managing Partner, Impact Investments, in November 2016. He was previously the CEO of Imprint Capital Advisors and, earlier in his career, served in different capacities at The Rockefeller Brothers Fund and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.
