Athena's Lisette Cooper Discusses Brexit and Impact on Global Economy in Washington Post
On June 29, Dr. Lisette Cooper was quoted in the Washington Post discussing the UK referendum to leave the European Union and the impact of the “Brexit” vote on the global economy and financial markets.
“The risk for the average investor is the markets just bleed lower,” Lisette Cooper told Washington Post reporter Renae Merle, adding that a over a longer period of time the decision will likely continue to influence equities as the markets digest new developments. “Uncertainty breeds volatility and . . . the news stream is not going to be good.”
Cooper, however, added that the market volatility has strengthened the dollar, which has created a relative safe haven for some retail investors. She also added that a stronger dollar could hurt China’s efforts to stabilize its economy.
