Jeff Finkelman Comments on New Bain Capital, TPG Impact Funds

Athena Capital Advisors’ Jeff Finkelman provided commentary as part of FundFire’s coverage of recent fundraising efforts from private equity firms Bain Capital and TPG Capital, which have each launched dedicated impact funds over the past year. The story was published in the first week of January.

The article, “TPG, Bain Sales to Set Course for Private Impact Biz,” speculated that the two new entries to the fundraising market are reflective of the growing mainstream appeal for values-based strategies within private equity. The article also highlighted the respective approaches of each fund, both of which have a broader focus than most traditional impact-oriented investment vehicles.

“Impact tends to attract investors that have a particularly strong interest or deep knowledge [in a particular area],” Athena’s Jeff Finkelman told FundFire reporter Tom Stabile, adding that this focus often lends itself to “issue-specific or sector-specific strategies.”
