WHAT FULL SERVICE
MEANS TO US
Full service means understanding an institution's circumstances and incorporating those factors into the customized solutions that we craft. Working with investment committees, boards and other institutional counsel, we deliver integrated and responsive service.
Customized strategies are implemented using experienced managers identified and vetted by our independent research team. The end result is a portfolio that is diversified globally across asset classes and strategies and matched to each institution's risk tolerance and return objectives.
For those institutions with a desire to simplify their performance and balance sheet reporting but do not require our comprehensive service, we offer financial reporting services on a stand alone basis. Clients who choose this option gain access to the highly customizable balance sheet and performance reports we offer our full service clients but maintain, control and manage their own portfolio outside Athena.
Protecting and growing client assets is core to what we do. A focus on capital preservation, augmented by fresh perspectives and deep understanding around new strategies, provides a contemporary approach to investment management. Through channeling three distinct sources of returns – derived from strategic and tactical asset allocations and instrument selection – we craft portfolios calibrated to take advantage of market opportunities while accounting for downside risk. We have expanded upon modern portfolio theory, so our clients can incorporate the mission of their organization into their investment strategy, balancing capital preservation with building growth-oriented portfolios to support institutional programs.

OUTSOURCED CIO SERVICES
We can serve as the outsourced chief investment officer (OCIO) for nonprofit, institutional clients to deliver a full range of customized and conflict-free investment management and operational support services.
We build portfolios tailored to our clients’ needs. Ours is not a one-size-fits-all approach in which clients share the same asset allocation and manager structure. We stand behind a specific portfolio, unique to each institutional client to meet their unique circumstances. Our scale, as well as our capabilities around values-based investing, make us a differentiated choice for nonprofit investors.
Scale and capabilities coupled with a high-touch, customized service offering.
ENHANCING INSTITUTIONAL GOVERNANCE
While conventional wisdom holds that asset allocation and manager selection are the primary variables for returns, effective governance is just as important in meeting investment objectives. We help institutions initiate and adopt strong governance practices; processes that enable their Boards to maintain effective oversight of complex portfolios with exposure across dynamic global capital markets. In conjunction with building diversified portfolios, we build awareness for clients of best practices around governance and help incorporate those ideas into their portfolios and establish processes to protect and grow their endowments.
Good governance both supports risk management, while also enabling opportunistic investing.
